Ox Horns Designer Armchair Crafted in Genuine Leather Inspired by Hans Wegner

The Ox leather armchair was one of Hans Wegner's most significant pieces. It was designed as an extension of the concepts utilised in the Cow Horn Chair and the Bull Horn Chair. This vintage style leather armchair’s defining feature is the large headrest that extends on both sides, providing a comfortable sitting experience with its wide arms.

A historical design background.

Hans J. Wegner’s Ox Lounge Chair was introduced in 1960. This sculptural masterpiece broke from Scandinavian convention with its confident, masculine silhouette—an expressive play of powerful contours and generous proportions that set it apart from the quiet minimalism of its era. Its defining gesture, the commanding headrest shaped like an ox’s horns, gives the chair both its name and its unmistakable presence.

Across a career that produced more than 500 celebrated chair designs, the Ox remained one of Wegner’s own personal treasures—an object he welcomed into his home and held close to his creative identity. The chair’s full, organic form demands exceptional craftsmanship: each piece is hand-upholstered in a meticulous, day-long process requiring both technical finesse and physical strength.

Originally crafted by A.P. Stolen and later by Erik Jørgensen, the Ox Lounge Chair entered a new chapter in 2021 as part of Fredericia’s distinguished collection—its legacy of daring design and enduring artistry carried forward for a new generation of collectors.

Note: This is not produced by either artisan but is rather inspired by the original. 

On a lighter note, the Ox Lounge chair is a powerful symbol of masculinity which is perhaps why it featured in Mike Myers' portrayal of Doctor Evil in Austin Powers (1997).

Care Instructions.  Upholstery Material. Using a soft cloth, wash periodically with lukewarm water and a mild soap (Ivory® or Castile Bar Soap). Wipe with another clean, damp cloth. Buff dry with a soft cotton towel. General Cleaning Guidelines. Regular vacuuming and use a soft brush to loosen surface dirt.
